Organisational and Political Psychology

  • Social sciences, human resources, social and human services and clinical practice.
  • Politics, social and political activism and human rights.
  • Leadership, administration, consulting, organisational psychology, and coaching.

Areas of Study

Organisational and political psychology are growing fields because of the need to meet the demands of ever-more-quickly changing work settings, political institutions, and community organisations. Three areas of study allow candidates with diverse interests to tailor their education in a non-traditional yet academically rigorous manner that is tailored to their individual needs and goals. The areas are:
  • Social and Organisational Psychology: Professionals with this focus combine the academic domains of sociology, and social psychology with organisational leadership, behaviour and consulting. They help organisations develop and manage psychological capital and workgroup strengths. Provide coaching to managers and employees to enhance their success, and personal and professional development.
  • Political Psychology: Professionals with this focus foster the ability to provide leadership and action in the political and governmental sectors. They may also focus on working “outside the system” with community organizations, non-profits, and grassroots groups working for change.
  • Social Justice and Human Rights: Professionals with this focus work to promote and pursue social justice and human rights organizing and activism at the local, national and international levels. They typically work to increase knowledge of social and political justice and universal human rights and how to achieve these goals. They help people and communities learn how to advocate for social conditions and environments that meet basic human needs and promote social, economic, political, and cultural justice.
